Moving For Free
We’re in the process of packing for a move to the Coast. Denver has been great, but it’s time for some nice cool weather and waves. No duh, when you move you need boxes and bubble wrap. Lots of boxes and bubble wrap to be exact. I’ve moved around plenty and always scrounge my moving boxes and packing material. OK, I’ll cop to it, I dumpster dive. There’s always lots of yummy free stuff lying around for me to recycle for my little project.Well things have changed lately. First, many businesses are starting to lock down their dumpsters. Guess they don’t want the liability of someone getting bunged up. Also the prevalence of those giant hydraulic box squashers means less stuff is available overall.Have you priced bubble wrap lately? Holy, holy, holy! $100 bucks for a big roll of the stuff-I guess I should not be surprised by this, it’s made out of oil. Used to be able to find boatloads of the stuff lying about, but not any more. Even the folks on Craigslist are getting greedy. Last year you could get all the used boxes and stuff for free, now people want to sell.Well I’ve been scrounging around for the last couple of months and got my box hoard together pretty well. We finally ran out of boxes at the end of the packing session and I had to make a run to Home Depot. I whined, bitched and moaned the whole way home after spending $25 for boxes and wrap. And you can bet your blue bippie that when I get to the other end and unpack I’m going to save them boxes and bubble wrap for the next move.Jeremy Myers is the owner of Lyssabeth’s oregon wedding officiants
